Your site won't switch off on January 1, 2027 — but here's the real cost of staying on unsupported software, and what DotStark's proven migration process protects you from.
Kentico 13 runs on .NET 6, already EOL since November 2024. Zero-day vulnerabilities discovered after Dec 2026 will stay open permanently. Your site becomes a known target.
Running unsupported CMS can breach GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOC 2 requirements, and invalidate cyber insurance policies that require supported software in your stack.
Critical issue at 2am? After Dec 2026, you're on your own. No tickets, no hotfixes, no patches. Your internal team carries 100% of the risk alone.
Agencies completing the best planned migrations are already booking 2025–2026. Waiting until mid-2026 means rushed scope, emergency timelines, and inflated costs. We've seen 40–60% price premiums on rush migrations.
Modern hybrid-headless DXP. Evergreen monthly updates. AI-powered content tools. Advanced personalisation. SaaS hosting on Azure. This isn't just risk reduction — it's a platform upgrade.
SaaS licensing eliminates infrastructure management, automates deployments, and ends disruptive major upgrades. Most clients see IT overhead drop significantly within year one of being on XbyK.
A clear-eyed look at what you have now versus what you're moving to.

Kentico Xperience 13 official support ends on December 31, 2026. After this date, Kentico provides no security patches, bug fixes, or technical support. Your site won't switch off — but you'll be running unsupported, unpatched software on an EOL .NET framework, with all the security and compliance implications that entails.
It's a replatform. Xperience by Kentico is a ground-up rebuild on modern .NET — it is not a click-to-upgrade process. Templates, modules, and custom back-end code need to be re-created in XbyK's architecture. However, Kentico provides an official Migration Toolkit to handle content migration, and the admin interface is familiar enough that your editors won't need to relearn the basics. Think of it as a major renovation, not a move to a different building.
Most migrations take 3–6 months from project kick-off to go-live. Simpler brochure sites with few integrations can be done in 8–12 weeks. Large enterprise sites with complex integrations, e-commerce, and significant custom code can take 6–9 months. We scope every migration individually after a discovery phase — we won't give you a number until we've looked under the hood.
No. We run the entire migration in a parallel environment. Your existing Kentico 13 site stays live, fully operational, throughout the entire process. We cut over to XbyK only after full QA in a staging environment and your sign-off. The go-live itself is a DNS switch, typically done outside business hours with a brief maintenance window.
The right answer depends on your organisation's compliance requirements, IT capacity, and hosting preferences. XbyK SaaS (on Azure) offers automated deployments, infrastructure management, built-in backups, and significantly reduced IT overhead — ideal if you want to stop managing servers. Private cloud gives you direct control over your hosting environment — preferred by some regulated industries. We'll help you evaluate both options in your assessment call.
The free assessment is a 60-minute call with a certified Kentico architect. Before the call we review your current setup. During the call we cover: migration complexity rating, indicative timeline, key risks and how to mitigate them, SaaS vs private cloud recommendation, and a recommended phased approach. Within 48 hours of the call you receive a written summary. No sales pitch. No obligation. Keep it whether you work with us or not.
Agencies with the best track records are booking up through 2026. The earlier you start, the more planned, risk-free, and cost-effective your migration will be.
